What affordable bookkeeping actually costs

Most small businesses pay $250 to $700 a month for bookkeeping, and the big online firms start between $300 and $400 for their entry plans. Those prices usually cover a monthly close and basic statements, with a rotating team and the extras hidden until the sales call.

Our plans sit at or just under those numbers, and every one includes something most of those firms don't: a named bookkeeper you can call, a report day agreed in writing, and a public price for every add-on. What moves your price up or down is simple:

  • Transactions. More lines on your bank and card statements means more work. That's what the plan caps measure.
  • Accounts. Each bank, card or loan account is reconciled every month. Extra accounts are $25 each.
  • How often you want your books touched. Monthly, twice a month, or weekly.
  • What you want beyond the books. Payroll, bills, invoices, sales tax, forecasts. Each is priced on its own below, so you only pay for what you use.

Not sure where you land? Maria will count your transactions on the free call and tell you.

Add-ons, priced up front

Most firms make you call for these. We'd rather you know before you do. Everything in this table is on top of your plan. Where a plan already includes part of a service, the add-on covers what's beyond it, and we'll tell you which applies before you pay. Monthly add-ons bill with your plan. Project work gets a written quote before any work starts.

Behind on your books? Start here.

Months or years behind is the most common way people find us. Here's how catch-up works:

  1. Maria looks at your file on the free call and tells you what shape it's in.
  2. You get a flat catch-up price in writing, by month behind, before any work starts.
  3. We reconcile every month, fix what's miscategorized, and hand you clean statements your CPA can file from.
  4. Then you move to a monthly plan, if you want, and never fall behind again.
Example

A service business eight months behind with about 150 transactions a month:

$2,800

Eight months at the Essential scope ($350 each). Quoted in writing, no hourly surprises.

Pricing questions

What counts as a transaction?

Any line on your bank or credit card statements: a deposit, a payment, a fee. We'll count yours on the free call so you start on the right plan.

What happens if I go over my plan's cap?

Nothing right away. Your price holds until the next quarterly review. Then we'll talk about moving up a plan or adding accounts at $25 each. No surprise overage fees, ever.

Is there a contract or setup fee?

No contract. Every plan is month to month with 30 days notice. Onboarding is $250 but waived when your books are clean and current, which is most of the time.

Is the QuickBooks subscription included?

No, and that's on purpose. Your QuickBooks subscription stays in your name and is billed by Intuit, so your books are always yours. If you don't have QuickBooks yet, we'll set it up for you.

Do you do taxes?

No. We keep your books clean and ready for your CPA or tax preparer, which usually makes tax time faster and cheaper.

How is this cheaper than the big online firms?

We don't have a sales team, an office or investors. We have Maria, who's been doing this for 20 years, and the small team she leads. You get more of her time for less money.

Can I switch plans later?

Yes, up or down, at any quarterly review. Businesses change. Your plan should too.

Do you only work with Tennessee businesses?

No. We're based in Tennessee and work with businesses in all 50 states. Everything happens online, by phone and in your QuickBooks.

Not sure which plan fits?

Tell us about your books and we'll set up a free call. Maria will look at them and tell you which plan fits, and whether you need one at all.
